A KLM flight attendant has been hospitalized in the Netherlands after a suspected hantavirus infection, the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport confirmed on Thursday.
According to Dutch broadcaster NOS, the crew member is showing mild symptoms and is currently isolated at Amsterdam University Medical Centers for medical testing.
Authorities said the case is linked to contact with a Dutch woman who died of hantavirus in Johannesburg on April 26.
A day before her death, she briefly boarded a KLM flight from Johannesburg to Amsterdam but was later deemed unfit to travel due to her condition.
Health officials are continuing investigations while the airline and medical teams closely monitor the situation.
Officials emphasized that appropriate isolation and precautionary measures have been taken, and there is currently no evidence of transmission risk to other passengers or crew members on the flight.
Further updates will be provided as laboratory results become available in the coming days.
