MIRPUR (AJK): May 8: A meeting of the Regional Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP) for implementation was held here on Thursday to review measures aimed at maintaining peace and order across all three districts of Mirpur Division, official sources said.
The meeting was chaired by Commissioner Mirpur Division Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan and attended by DIG Range Mirpur Kamran Ali, Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Chaudhry Sajid Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Kotli Imran Shaheen, Deputy Commissioner Bhimber Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq, SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal, SSP Kotli Adeel Ahmed Langrial, SSP Bhimber Chaudhry Muhammad Amin, along with officers of security and law enforcement agencies.
The forum reviewed the overall security situation in Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber districts and decided to maintain strict vigilance at all entry points, placing them on high alert. The meeting also emphasized ensuring foolproof security arrangements for foreigners, including Chinese nationals.
Instructions were issued to all law enforcement agencies to conduct a general hold-up against illegal foreign residents, including Afghan refugees, illegal currency and money exchange networks, unregistered madrassas, and non-customs paid and unregistered vehicles. The meeting stressed the need to prevent any attempt of terrorism and militancy across the division.
Further directives were issued to take immediate and strict action against individuals involved in crimes against national security, members of banned organizations, and drug traffickers. Authorities were also instructed to ensure implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding registration of religious schools, rest houses, guest houses, hotels, and other accommodation facilities, along with proper registration of individuals residing in the three districts.
The meeting further directed law enforcement agencies to prevent smuggling activities and launch a crackdown against unregistered and non-customs paid vehicles operating in the region. Coordination among police, administration, and security agencies was emphasized for effective enforcement of these measures.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Mirpur Division Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan said the National Action Plan is a framework for national security and stability, and no compromise will be made on its implementation. He stressed that law and order during upcoming elections must be maintained.
He further directed the administration and police to demonstrate impartiality in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections while discouraging interference in the democratic process. He added that a peaceful environment must be provided to the public for smooth electoral activity.
DIG Police Mirpur Range Kamran Ali briefed the meeting that foolproof security arrangements have been made in collaboration with administration, police, and sensitive agencies to maintain law and order across the division.
He said the police force remains fully alert and is utilizing modern technology to ensure security across Mirpur Division. He added that all possible steps have been taken to prevent incidents of religious hatred.
“No one is above the law and the Constitution, and no concessions are being made,” he said, adding strict action will be taken against those violating the law under the National Action Plan and state regulations.
