Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Türkiye has successfully safeguarded its food security and agricultural production despite regional conflicts, climate risks, and global economic challenges. Addressing the World Farmers’ Day event in Ankara, Erdogan said the government’s balanced foreign policy and early precautionary measures helped protect the country’s food supply chain for its 86 million citizens.
He said Türkiye closely monitored the conflicts affecting Iran and Gulf countries and took immediate measures to prevent any negative impact on agriculture. According to Erdogan, the country had already secured sufficient fertilizer stocks and raw materials before regional tensions deepened.
The Turkish president emphasized that food security has become a major global concern due to climate change, pandemics, wars, and water stress. He noted that Türkiye planned ahead by strengthening agricultural production and introducing support mechanisms to avoid shortages and future risks.
Erdogan also said favorable rainfall and rising reservoir levels this year are expected to improve crop production after last year’s decline caused by drought and frost. He expressed solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, hoping peace and prosperity would return to their lands.
Highlighting Türkiye’s agricultural achievements, Erdogan said the country ranks among the world’s leading producers of vegetables, fruits, and seeds. He also announced a new World Bank-backed agricultural financing initiative offering support of up to $10 million for investors, along with additional credit facilities for farmers aimed at boosting rural development and employment.
