Beijing, May 15 — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged the United States and Iran to resolve disputes, including the nuclear issue, through dialogue and negotiations following the high-level summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in China.
Briefing media on the Trump-Xi talks, Wang said both sides exchanged views on major global and regional developments, including tensions involving Iran and security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that political engagement remains the only viable path to resolving complex international disputes, stressing that force cannot deliver lasting solutions.
Wang said China encourages Washington and Tehran to continue diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, and supports the swift reopening and secure functioning of the Strait of Hormuz under sustained calm.
He noted the two leaders held nearly nine hours of discussions during Trump’s three-day visit, describing the talks as candid, in-depth and strategically significant.
On economic matters, Wang said both sides agreed to establish a trade and investment council, and continue discussions on tariff adjustments and agricultural market access. He added that working-level teams are negotiating implementation details.
The two sides agreed to define future relations as a constructive, strategic and stable partnership, expanding cooperation in diplomacy, security, trade, health, agriculture and cultural exchange.
Wang further said Trump extended an invitation to Xi Jinping to visit the United States on September 24, reflecting continued high-level engagement despite global competition and differences.
