TEHRAN, May 18 — Iran on Monday said indirect talks with the United States remain underway through Pakistani mediation, amid ongoing regional tensions and diplomatic efforts to sustain a fragile ceasefire.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said both Tehran and Washington had exchanged proposals through mediators, rejecting speculation surrounding uranium enrichment and nuclear material issues.
“The Americans presented proposals, and we also presented our views,” Baqaei said, according to Iranian media reports.
He also criticized a proposed US-Bahraini resolution concerning the Strait of Hormuz, saying the UN Security Council should not accuse Iran of threatening regional security. Baqaei further blamed Washington for maritime insecurity and tensions affecting international trade routes.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran had submitted a revised 14-point proposal to Pakistani mediators for delivery to the United States. The updated document reportedly includes measures aimed at ending hostilities and building mutual confidence between the two sides.
The latest diplomatic exchanges follow months of heightened tensions after US and Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year triggered retaliatory attacks by Tehran targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf region.
A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took effect on April 8, although subsequent negotiations in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent agreement. US President Donald Trump later announced an indefinite extension of the truce.
