MIRPUR (AJK), June 18 — The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has revised the schedule for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections 2026 and extended the deadline for submission of nomination papers following requests from prospective candidates.
According to an official spokesperson, nomination papers can now be submitted until 5:00 pm on June 23, 2026. Scrutiny will be held on June 24 from 8:00 am, and the list of valid candidates will be issued the same day.
He said appeals against Returning Officers’ decisions may be filed from June 25 to June 28. The Election Commission will hear appeals on June 29 and June 30, with decisions announced on July 1 and July 2.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is 2:00 pm on July 3. The revised list of candidates will be issued on July 4, while election symbols will be allotted on July 5. The final list of candidates will also be published the same day.
Polling for the AJK Legislative Assembly elections will be held on July 27, 2026.
The spokesperson said the revised schedule was issued in view of candidate requests and public convenience, urging timely submission of nomination papers.
He added that electoral procedures will be conducted transparently and in accordance with the law to ensure free and fair elections across Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
