MANAMA, June 25 – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during the Gulf Cooperation Council–U.S. ministerial meeting in Manama on Thursday that the United States intends to build constructive dialogue and pursue new agreements with Iran.
Rubio emphasized that Washington wants any agreement with Iran to take into account the interests of its allies and partners in the Gulf region.
He also rejected the idea that the Strait of Hormuz belongs to any single country, saying that imposing tolls in the strategic waterway would be unacceptable.
Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani called on Iran to fulfill its obligations, stressing that Gulf security is indivisible and must be protected collectively.
Al Zayani welcomed efforts that led to the cessation of hostilities and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, saying Gulf countries look forward to a new phase based on sovereignty and respect for international law.
He also welcomed Oman’s announcement on the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting maritime security for regional and global trade stability.
The meeting brought together GCC foreign ministers and U.S. officials to discuss regional security, maritime safety, and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Gulf while promoting dialogue, cooperation, and long-term stability.
