TEHRAN, June 25 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Wednesday called on the United States to avoid interpretations “completely in contradiction” with the recently signed Iran–U.S. memorandum of understanding (MoU).

In a post on social media platform X, Baghaei criticized what he described as contradictory statements by U.S. officials regarding the agreement.

He said remarks about ending the conflict would not reduce Iran’s “accumulated distrust” and would instead remind Iranians of past breaches of commitments.

Baghaei stressed that the United States has never shown sincerity toward Iran, adding that despite longstanding distrust, Tehran entered the diplomatic process in good faith and signed the MoU.

He noted that Iranians are aware hostility will not end through a single agreement, referring to decades of strained relations and recent regional developments.

The MoU, signed on June 18, aims to end hostilities in the region and establish a framework for dialogue, including issues related to Lebanon.

Under the agreement, Iran and the United States agreed to 60 days of negotiations toward a final deal focusing on Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief.

Baghaei reiterated that consistency and trust are essential for successful diplomacy and warned that conflicting statements could undermine the ongoing negotiating process between the two sides.
