ISLAMABAD, June 28: Pakistan on Sunday urged all parties to fully respect the Middle East ceasefire as renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran threatened the fragile truce.
During a telephone conversation, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas reviewed the rapidly evolving regional situation, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
Kallas commended Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that contributed to the US-Iran framework agreement, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. She also expressed serious concern over recent ceasefire violations and stressed the importance of keeping communication channels open to prevent further escalation.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s position that all parties must honour the ceasefire agreement and exercise maximum restraint to preserve regional peace and stability.
The discussion followed renewed Iranian strikes on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait. Bahraini authorities said they had successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missiles and drones targeting the country.
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched attacks on US positions in response to recent American strikes on Iranian territory.
Pakistan has played a key diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, helping secure the agreement that ended the conflict, which began on February 28, while continuing to support peaceful engagement and regional stability.
