The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Cabinet unanimously adopted a series of resolutions during a meeting held in the state capital on Sunday night, an official statement said.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Chaudhry Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, paid tribute to Pakistan’s diplomatic role in helping ease tensions between Iran and the United States. The cabinet described the “Islamabad Declaration (MoU)” as a significant achievement and a historic success of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
The resolutions commended Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for what it termed visionary leadership and effective diplomacy, stating that the development had enhanced Pakistan’s international standing and promoted peace, stability and dialogue in the Muslim world. It added that the achievement was a matter of pride for Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The cabinet expressed serious concern over continued human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), condemning arbitrary arrests, restrictions on media, curbs on freedom of expression and alleged demographic changes. It reaffirmed support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and termed the international community’s silence regrettable.
The cabinet called on the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and global human rights bodies to take effective steps to implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.
It also expressed grief over the Pakistan Army helicopter crash in Muzaffarabad, paying tribute to the martyrs and reaffirming that their sacrifices for national defence and public service would always be honoured.
Separate resolutions were passed on the training aircraft crash in Mardan, in which Flight Lieutenant Taha Abbasi was martyred, as well as the martyrdom of four police personnel in Azad Kashmir. The cabinet extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
The meeting also expressed sorrow over a landslide incident in Abbaspur that claimed three lives, offering prayers for the deceased and strength for their families.
The cabinet expressed full confidence in the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government under Prime Minister Rathore, appreciating its performance in governance, development, education, healthcare and public welfare initiatives, and expressed optimism about future political success.
