French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Syria to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest, Syria’s presidential media directorate said on Sunday.
According to a statement carried by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Macron will be accompanied by a delegation of investors and representatives of French companies during the visit.
The statement added that Macron and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa are expected to hold a roundtable meeting with their respective delegations. However, no specific date for the visit has been provided.
If confirmed, the trip would mark the first visit by a French president to Syria since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government in late 2024.
The visit is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries, along with discussions on areas of mutual cooperation and regional developments, according to Syrian authorities.
