The Palestinian technocratic committee designated to administer the Gaza Strip has announced its readiness to assume governance following Hamas’ decision to dissolve its administrative body in the enclave.
Committee head Ali Shaath said the 15-member transitional body is prepared to take over its responsibilities once the required resources and capabilities become available. He said effective governance requires a single authority, a unified legal framework, and one armed force under a single governing entity.
The announcement followed Hamas’ decision to dissolve its Government Emergency Committee and transfer administrative responsibilities to the technocratic committee. Committee chief Mohammed al-Farra formally submitted his resignation, while Hamas said only technical and professional staff would remain temporarily to prevent disruption of essential public services.
According to Hamas, the move aims to ease humanitarian suffering caused by the ongoing conflict, reconstruction delays, border closures, and continued instability. The group also called for the technocratic committee to enter Gaza and assume its duties without delay.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the decision reflects the group’s commitment to transferring governing responsibilities.
The committee was established during the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire process announced in January but has yet to enter Gaza. Palestinian factions later discussed a Cairo roadmap covering reconstruction, Israeli withdrawal, disarmament, and future governance arrangements for the territory.
