Russia and Ukraine reported major overnight aerial attacks on Monday, with Moscow claiming it intercepted hundreds of Ukrainian drones while Ukrainian authorities said Russian missile and drone strikes caused casualties and widespread damage in Kyiv.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems shot down 519 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over 20 regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Moscow, Rostov and Crimea. Regional officials reported one woman killed in Kerch, while several others were injured in Crimea and the Yaroslavl region. A drone strike also sparked a fire at an industrial facility in the Kaluga region, while infrastructure was damaged in the Leningrad region.
The ministry also said Russian forces launched large-scale strikes using drones and long-range precision weapons against military-industrial facilities, energy infrastructure and military airfields in Kyiv and several other Ukrainian regions.
Ukrainian officials said at least 11 people were killed and 46 injured in the attack on Kyiv, with 27, including three children, hospitalized. Residential buildings were damaged across multiple districts, while authorities also reported 15 injuries in the surrounding Kyiv region.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 351 drones and 68 missiles overnight, adding that its air defenses intercepted 326 drones and 37 missiles.
