Beijing, May – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the military operation in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region is intended to create a buffer zone. During a press conference in Beijing, Putin attributed the offensive to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territories, emphasizing that Russia is achieving daily successes in Kharkiv. He criticized Ukrainian authorities for failing to understand that strategically defeating Russia is beyond their capability. Putin urged them to reassess their stance towards Russia and to understand the realities of the conflict.
The Russian President also pointed out that the ongoing military actions were a direct response to what he described as Ukrainian provocations. He stressed the importance of recognizing who Russia’s true adversaries are and managing relations with them effectively. Putin concluded by reiterating Russia’s commitment to its military objectives in Kharkiv, aiming to secure its borders and ensure national security against any external threats.
