The United States and Iran exchanged attacks on Wednesday, increasing regional tensions as both sides accused each other of violating commitments and threatening security.
US Central Command said American forces carried out strikes against more than 80 Iranian targets, including air defense systems, command networks, coastal radar facilities, anti-ship missile capabilities, and IRGC vessels near the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced strikes on US military positions in Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as retaliation for American attacks. Iranian media reported explosions on Qeshm and Kharg islands, while the IRGC said one of its members was killed during operations.
Iran’s military leadership warned of a “crushing response” to US actions and said it would not allow interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC also claimed it had targeted a US drone during the operation. Iran accused Washington of violating a recently signed peace memorandum, while officials criticized renewed sanctions and military actions.
The US said its strikes followed attacks on three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington and Tehran remain scheduled for negotiations aimed at reaching a broader regional agreement.
