MIRPUR (AJK), July 15: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Wednesday accused the banned Awami Action Committee of attempting to disrupt peace, stability, and state authority through recent activities.
Addressing a press conference, AJK Special Secretary Home Chaudhry Guftar Hussain and Police spokesperson DIG Irfan Masood Kashfi alleged that the group was using public rights issues as a cover to create unrest, spread fear, and pressure the government.
The officials claimed that the banned committee involved women, children, and students in protests, promoted anti-state narratives, blocked highways, and disrupted public life. They said the government would take necessary measures to maintain law and order and protect citizens.
Chaudhry Guftar Hussain also alleged that armed groups linked to the committee opened fire on law enforcement personnel and attempted to escalate tensions. He reiterated that AJK general elections scheduled for July 27 would be held on time.
DIG Kashfi said a misinformation campaign was being spread on social media regarding recent incidents. He claimed that weapons had been recovered from some activists and that evidence related to attacks and clashes was available.
The police spokesperson said roadblocks had affected traffic movement and reported casualties among security personnel and civilians. He added that operations were conducted to clear roads and restore normal movement.
The officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
