GAZA, August 16: A Hamas delegation is holding talks in Cairo to address Israel’s compliance with a roadmap agreed with the U.S.-led “Board of Peace,” the Palestinian movement said Sunday.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the meetings form part of ongoing contacts with mediators aimed at raising concerns over what the movement described as Israeli violations.
A Hamas source told Xinhua that a delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya arrived in Cairo late Saturday. It is expected to meet Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad to discuss developments concerning the Palestinian issue and efforts to strengthen the Gaza ceasefire.
The visit comes as mediators from Egypt, Türkiye and Qatar continue diplomatic efforts to consolidate the ceasefire agreement amid disagreements over implementation of its next phases.
Qassem did not provide further details about the delegation’s meetings.
Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a U.S.-backed 15-point plan to end the Gaza conflict, saying Israel would not withdraw its forces from the enclave until Hamas is fully disarmed.
The Cairo talks come amid continued international efforts to advance the ceasefire process and address outstanding differences over its implementation.
