MIRPUR (AJK), August 18: Mirpur police have arrested suspects involved in two separate recent cases of robbery and burglary and recovered stolen property worth millions of rupees, SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal said Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, the SSP said police solved a house robbery in Officer Colony, Sector A-2, where an unidentified person allegedly injured a woman during a power outage before fleeing with gold jewellery, expensive watches and cash.
Using modern investigation techniques, police traced and arrested a domestic employee of the house. Gold jewellery and cash worth around Rs. 63 million were recovered from his possession.
In another case, police traced a major theft committed in Sector C-2 during Eid-ul-Azha, involving Pakistani, British and Iranian currency and gold jewellery. CIA staff arrested one suspect in Rawalpindi, who disclosed the involvement of two accomplices.
Police later learned that the two suspects were attempting to flee to Afghanistan and conducted a raid near the Torkham border. However, they crossed into Afghanistan before police arrived. Their belongings were seized and Rs. 4 million in cash was recovered.
SSP Khurram Iqbal said efforts were underway through relevant institutions to arrest the absconding suspects. He said police would continue operations to protect citizens and their property, adding that there was no room for criminal elements in Mirpur district.
He directed police officials to remain vigilant and strengthen intelligence-based operations to prevent similar incidents. He also assured citizens that effective action would continue against those involved in robbery, burglary and other crimes.
The SSP also handed over recovered money to the affected person and awarded cash prizes and certificates to police personnel for their performance.
