MIRPUR (AJK), Aug. 24: A Kashmir-origin British citizen was shot dead at his ancestral home in Mirpur allegedly over a domestic dispute, while police arrested his nephew after four days and recovered a 30-bore pistol allegedly used in the crime.
Mirpur-AJK Senior Superintendent of Police Khurram Iqbal told media on Monday that the incident occurred on August 19 when Dilpazeer, a British Kashmiri, who had been living alone at his ancestral home in Noh Mahal, Nakka, was found dead in his residential room.
The victim’s brother, Aurangzeb, a driver at the Municipal Corporation Mirpur, reported to police that he was informed by a local resident, Mehrban alias Kaka, that his brother had been shot and killed. Aurangzeb reached the house with family members and found Dilpazeer lying dead in a pool of blood. The television and air conditioner in the room were reportedly switched on.
The SSP said Dilpazeer was a Kashmir-born British citizen who had arrived in Mirpur from England around one and a half months before the incident. His wife and children reside in the UK. According to the complainant, Dilpazeer had no known enmity with anyone and was considered a peace-loving person.
A case, FIR No. 193/26, was registered at City Police Station Mirpur under Sections 302 and 452 of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified accused persons.
Police described the case as a “blind murder” and said tracing the unidentified assailant was a major challenge. During the preliminary investigation, police traced and arrested the suspect, identified as Rizwan Jahangir, son of Jahangir Akhtar, a resident of Noh Mahal, within four days of registration of the case.
According to police, the suspect allegedly disclosed his involvement during interrogation. On his identification, investigators recovered a 30-bore pistol with its magazine, which police believe was used in the murder.
The arrested suspect is reportedly the deceased’s real nephew. Police said further investigation was underway and all aspects of the case were being examined.
SSP Khurram Iqbal said no person involved in the crime would be allowed to escape legal action. Local residents appreciated the quick police action.
