RAWALPINDI: An army officer and a soldier were martyred during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Hassan Khel area of Peshawar district, the army’s media wing reported on Sunday. The operation, responding to reports of terrorist presence, resulted in the elimination of five terrorists and injuries to three others.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Captain Hussain Jahangir, 25, from Rahim Yar Khan District, led his troops courageously but made the ultimate sacrifice in the intense exchange of fire. Havildar Shafiq Ullah, 36, from Karak district, also fought gallantly and was martyred during the operation.
Captain Jahangir had served in the Pakistan Army for four years and is survived by his grieving parents and siblings. Havildar Shafiq Ullah, who dedicated 18 years to defending the nation, leaves behind his wife, one son, and two daughters.
Security forces continue to conduct a sanitization operation to eliminate any remaining terrorist presence in the area. The ISPR reiterated Pakistan’s determination to eradicate terrorism.
Earlier this month, an army officer sacrificed his life in a successful IBO in Balochistan’s Zhob district, eliminating three terrorists. In another incident on April 18, unidentified gunmen ambushed a team of Customs Intelligence officials in Dera Ismail Khan district, martyring five officials and two civilians, including a five-year-old girl. ISPR also confirmed on April 13 that two soldiers were martyred during an IBO in Buner district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
