Pakistan successfully launched its second communication satellite, PAKSAT MM-1, on Thursday to enhance the country’s digital communication infrastructure. The satellite was deployed from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) and will orbit at an altitude of 36,000 km. The five-ton satellite, equipped with advanced communication equipment, aims to improve telecom services.

Key Points:

  • Launch Details: Satellite launched from China’s XSLC.
  • Orbital Deployment: 36,000 km above Earth.
  • Satellite Weight: Five tons.
  • Equipment: Latest communication technology.

The Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) highlighted that the satellite will help establish a sophisticated communication network to meet growing telecom demands. It will take three to four days to stabilize in its orbit and will offer high-speed internet and seamless connectivity through its high-power multi-mission capabilities in C, Ku, Ka Bands, and SBAS services in L Band.

Prime Minister’s Statement: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation, expressing pride in the scientists’ achievement. He emphasized that the satellite will be pivotal in transforming Pakistan into a digital nation, offering broadband internet, TV broadcasting, mobile banking, and VSAT connectivity.

Additional Context: This launch follows the historic ICUBE-Q launch on May 3, part of China’s Chang’E6 mission. ICube-Qamar reached lunar orbit on May 9 and operated according to parameters. The Chang’e 6 mission is scheduled to return to Earth on June 4, expected to arrive on June 25. The mission began in 2022 when the China National Space Agency (CNSA) invited member states to send student-built payloads to the moon.
