Devastating landslides claim 93 lives in India’s tea Estates

Kerala, India — Landslides triggered by relentless monsoon rains have devastated tea plantations in Kerala, killing at least 93 people and injuring 128 more on Tuesday. Officials have reported that 250 others were rescued from the mud and debris.

The torrential downpours have wreaked havoc on the southern coastal state, particularly affecting the Wayanad district. Blocked roads have further complicated relief efforts in the disaster-stricken area.

“93 dead bodies have been found so far,” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced to reporters. “This is one of the worst natural calamities that our state has seen.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and support through a social media post: “My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured.”
