Doha, May 14 (QNA) – US President Donald Trump’s visit to Doha is aimed at further strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States and Qatar amidst key regional and international developments, according to Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Ansari stated that the visit underscores Qatar’s significant role in regional security, energy cooperation, and mediation for peaceful conflict resolution. He highlighted that the agenda will likely include discussions on security and defense cooperation, developments in Gaza, and economic partnerships. Al Ansari expressed optimism that the visit would bolster joint Qatari-US-Egyptian mediation efforts regarding Gaza, enhancing diplomatic moves towards a ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, and civilian protection.
He emphasized Qatar’s commitment to humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, working with all parties to secure a sustainable truce and ease the suffering of the Palestinian people. He called the US President’s visit a vital opportunity to unify international efforts, apply pressure to end escalation, and create conditions for resuming the political process.
Al Ansari also pointed out that Qatari-US relations serve as a model for strategic cooperation, reflecting mutual trust and continuous coordination on global and regional issues. He cited past cooperation, including successful evacuations from Afghanistan and mediation that led to the 2020 US-Taliban peace agreement signed in Doha.
Highlighting humanitarian aspects, Al Ansari noted both nations’ work in relief, development, education, and health, collaborating with international organizations and UN agencies. He added that Qatar and the US share a vision of supporting crisis-affected populations globally, promoting peace, and upholding human dignity.
Regarding the conflict in Gaza, Al Ansari stressed Qatar’s close coordination with the US and Egypt, contributing to mediation efforts for ceasefire agreements, hostage exchanges, and aid delivery despite significant challenges. He added that Qatar’s extensive experience in conflict mediation makes it a reliable US partner for regional peace and stability.
On the broader international stage, Al Ansari praised US-led efforts to address global crises, particularly the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and expressed Qatar’s support for US-Iran diplomatic talks in Muscat, facilitated by Oman. He concluded by emphasizing Qatar’s role as an effective partner in US-led peace initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as solutions for global conflicts.
