MIRPUR (AJK), February 12 — Azad Jammu & Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore on Thursday announced a series of initiatives to strengthen the operational capacity and effectiveness of the AJK Police Force.
Addressing the 61st Passing Out Parade at the Police Training School in Mirpur, the Prime Minister unveiled plans to double the budget for essential police equipment, reassess compensation packages for families of martyred officers, and increase personnel where needed to meet modern law enforcement challenges.
Inspector General of Police Muhammad Yasin Qureshi and Police Training School Principal SSP Kamran Ali also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting measures to enhance professional skills and capabilities of the force in line with contemporary policing standards.
Rathore announced the construction of barracks for lady police officers, consolidation of police lines’ march floor, and alignment of salaries and benefits with those in Punjab. He further stated that police courts would be operational in all three divisions after Ramadan, improving access to justice.
Paying tribute to the sacrifices of police personnel, the Prime Minister called the uniform a symbol of dignity and praised officers for their courage, resilience, and exemplary services during earthquakes, floods, and other disasters.
Reflecting on last year’s volatile situations in Azad Kashmir, Rathore noted the remarkable determination of the police force. He instructed newly passing-out recruits to perform their duties with responsibility, integrity, and a focus on protecting citizens’ lives and property — the core responsibility of the police.
He emphasized that the government is committed to practical measures for improving professional skills, operational readiness, and performance of the AJK Police Force, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for the people of the state.
