AJK IRD crosses major milestone through exceptional performance during Oct.-Dec. quarter of fiscal year 2025-26:

MIRPUR ( AJK): January 1st: Azad Jammu Kashmir Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) has crossed a major milestone by demonstrating exceptional performance during December quarter of the financial year 2025-26, it was officially said

Disclosing this an Inland Revenue spokesperson told this Correspondent here on Thursday that at the end of the December quarter, the government had allocated a tax target of Rs 28 billion to the South Zone of the Inland Revenue Department, in response to which the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) successfully collected a revenue of Rs 28.5 billion, which is more than the set target and is a clear proof of the effective policies of the department, strict supervision and day and night hard work of the field formations.

The spokesperson, while giving details, said that the South Zone was assigned an annual tax target of Rs 70 billion for the financial year 2025-26 and by the December quarter, the South Zone was to collect 40% of the annual target, which has been exceeded with great success. The spokesperson said that this achievement was achieved at a time when the overall economic conditions were particularly challenging.

“There was a significant reduction in the interest rates of banks in the country, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 4 billion in revenue collection. Similarly, due to relaxation in electricity rates, there was a reduction of Rs 2 to 2.5 billion in taxes”, the spokesperson said adding “however, despite all these factors, the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) not only maintained the revenue targets but also successfully exceeded them through professional capacity and effective use of modern technology. According to the spokesperson, strict and continuous monitoring of the Point of Sale (POS) system played a key role in this excellent performance. Prevention of tax evasion was ensured through integrated POS data analysis and real-time sales reporting at the national and local levels. In this regard, clear instructions were given to the field formations to further strengthen the process of effective enforcement, physical verification and digital audit of businesses connected to the POS system.

Furthermore, the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) focused on assessment orders and auditing. Pending and important cases were brought to a logical conclusion within the ambit of the law, which resulted in timely collection of due taxes and substantial benefit to the government exchequer. The spokesperson clarified that the assessment and audit process was carried out keeping in mind complete transparency, legal requirements and protection of taxpayers’ rights. The spokesperson of Inland Revenue further said that the focus of the department’s policy is digitalization, transparency and impartial enforcement of the law. Under these principles, a coherent strategy was adopted in the December quarter, in which continuity of performance was ensured by the field formations and circle officers.

He emphasized that the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) will continue its efforts with full integrity and professionalism to achieve revenue targets, promote tax base and establish the economy in the national interest. Finally, the spokesperson appreciated the performance of all the field formations, officers and staff of the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) and said that this success is the result of teamwork and effective leadership, which will provide the basis for better results in the future. The spokesperson further said that the Minister for Finance and Inland Revenue Chaudhry Qasim Majeed and the Chairman Azad Jammu and Kashmir Central Board of Revenue / Secretary Inland Revenue Muhammad Raqeeb Khan have expressed their appreciation for this excellent performance of the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone).

He congratulated the leadership, officers and field formations of the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) for achieving revenue in excess of the set targets and expressed the hope that the department would maintain its excellent performance with the same spirit, professionalism and hard work in the future and continue to play an effective role in stabilizing the national treasury.
