MIRPUR (AJK), March 31: The Inland Revenue Department Azad Jammu and Kashmir has launched a subsidized fuel scheme for two and three-wheeler vehicles, including motorcycles and rickshaws, aimed at benefiting low-income automobile workers and the general public in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
A spokesperson for the IRD stated that the initiative follows directives from the Governments of Pakistan and AJK, emphasizing people-friendly policies to support the economically disadvantaged. Senior officials, including Secretary Inland Revenue and Chairman AJK Central Board of Revenue Chaudhry Abdul Rehman, and Commissioner Inland Revenue South Zone/Director Excise Taxation Mirpur Division Syed Ansar Ali, issued immediate instructions to all Motor Registering Authorities (MRAs) and Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs) in Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber to ensure effective implementation.
The IRD has directed all MRAs to establish special help desks for public facilitation related to vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, and other documentation, ensuring all cases are handled promptly to avoid delays or inconvenience. Awareness campaigns through social media, banners, and public signage are also being implemented to maximize public access.
Eligibility for the scheme is limited to vehicles regularly registered in the name of their genuine owners, with strict monitoring to prevent misuse. Senior IRD officials have urged timely execution of orders and progress reporting. The program is expected to directly benefit thousands of low-income families who rely on motorcycles and rickshaws for daily livelihood, providing them with tangible financial relief on fuel costs.
Officials also emphasized that this initiative strengthens transparency, accountability, and efficient public service delivery while promoting a more inclusive system for all citizens. The IRD will continue monitoring implementation closely and ensure the scheme reaches the maximum number of eligible beneficiaries across the region.
