AJK observes World Women Day with renewed resolve to ensure women empowerment in all spheres of life:

MIRPUR (AJK): March 8 : Like rest of the world-over International Women Day was also observed in Azad Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday, with the renewal of the pledge to continue individual and collective efforts to get ended the gender discrimination besides to ensure due empowerment, safeguard equal rights and dignified status, as well as to maintain high respect, honor, dignity of the women folk at par with opposite gender in all segments of the society.

Our Special Jammu and Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports from Mirpur that special ceremonies including, walks, seminars and symposiums were the hallmark of the day that observed throughout Azad Jammu Kashmir as well side by side the rest of the world.

The World Women Day is observed this day of March 8 every year since the year of 1900 across the globe in the light of the charter under the manifesto of the United Nations to highlight the importance of the women’s role in the society.

The day was marked with special ceremonies including walks of women folk, hosted under the auspices of various Social Welfarecand Women Organizations in all ten districts of AJK with the resolve to maintain the equal rights and status of the females who have reached to about 51 per cent of the total population of the country irrespective of any discrimination of gender besides maintaining their respect, honour and dignity to ensure the maximum utilization of the talent and abilities of the women folk for the betterment and uplift of the country and the nation.

Several of the ceremonies were held to celebrate the World Women’s Day under the auspices of various local NGOs of Women and the state-run women development institution.

Addressing seminar titled ‘Status of Women in Islam’ hosted in Mirpur under the auspices of NGO ‘Anjam Falah e Behbood e Insaaniat’ at Kidney Dialysis Center Auditorium Mirpur DHQ Hospital, Speakers including Dr. Maria Zulfiqar, DMS Mirpur Div. Teaching Hospital, Mrs. ayesha Malik, Radio Anchor, Dr. Tahir Mahmood, Head of the Host NGO, Ex SD AK Radio Mirpur Muhammad Shakeel, retired Banker Syed Shabir Shah, and ex Registrar MUST Prof Waris Jiraal and others highlighted the role model of eminent women social workers engaged in serving the ailing humanity besides for the uplift of the women in different sectors of life on self help basis. The ceremony was attended by a large number of women representing various segments of the Society mostly belonging to the social and working class of women folk.

Speakers strongly condemned the continued tregic incidents of molestation including rape and killing of innocent Kashmiri women by the Indian occupational forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir state in the wake of the increased acts of state terrorism for their “offence” of launching struggle for liberation of the motherland from Indian forced and unlawful rule.

Speakers called upon the Unied Nations and the international human rights organizations, claiming to be the champions of safety of human rights, to immediately intervene to get the Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiris including women, stopped in Indian illegally occupied Kashmir, which India has turned into a hell to curb Kashmiris just and principled struggle for liberation of the motherland from Indian yoke.

Speakers underlined that the importance of the role of women in all sections of the society and said “no healthy society can emerge without the vibrant role of woman in different capacities, especially as a responsible mother, sister and daughter bearing due intelect in different fields of their respective choices.

The celebration of the world women’s day reminds to promote and raise awareness about the equal importance and status of women folk, at par with male members, at all time in the society – since the importance of the role of lady members in any of the society could not be set aside and the equal rights, dignified status, respect and honor of women was imperative in all respect, speakers observed.

They emphasised that the role of women in the progress and prosperity and uplift of any nation and the country could was primarily imperative side by side the male members of the society.
