MIRPUR (AJK), March 6: Authorities have announced a comprehensive anti-encroachment campaign in all three districts of Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber to ensure the removal of illegal encroachments and discourage such unlawful practices in the future.
The decision was made during a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Commissioner Mirpur Division Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan. The meeting issued directives to law enforcement and municipal functionaries to implement the plan across the division, including Mirpur city.
The administration also finalized a security and traffic plan to manage the ongoing rush in markets during the second and last ten days of Ramadan. The plan includes removal of illegal large billboards on roads, electricity poles, and buildings, clearing sidewalks, carts, and stalls, and issuing notices to those violating parking regulations in plazas.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Chairman District Council Raja Naveed Akhtar Goga, Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Raja Sadaqat Khan, Director State Development Agency Chaudhry Amjad Iqbal, SSP Khurram Iqbal, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Raja Shiraz Khan, and others.
It was categorically decided that all illegal encroachments in Mirpur city will be eliminated immediately. Authorities, including the police, municipal corporation, development agency, and district council, were directed to take immediate action against violators and implement the traffic plan.
The meeting also called for improving traffic management in other parts of the district, including Chowk Shaheed, Mian Muhammad Road, Stadium and Quaid-e-Azam Chowk, F-3 Old Chungi, Nangi Bazaar, and Old Hattian. Vehicle parking for shopkeepers and shoppers is to be organized in plazas with basement parking, to prevent traffic congestion in the city.
Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan urged all concerned institutions to realize their responsibilities and resolve encroachment, traffic, and civic issues on a daily basis. Law enforcement agencies were also instructed to ensure law and order, security, traffic management, health, and sanitation during the Eid-ul-Fitr shopping period.
