Cairo, September 04 (QNA) – The Arab League on Thursday urged the international community to support the Palestinian people in Gaza in obtaining safe and equitable health services, to work to build a health system capable of withstanding the challenges facing the Strip, and to protect health facilities and health workers in accordance with international humanitarian law.
In a statement marking the Arab Health Day, which falls on September 4th each year, the Arab League noted that this year’s theme is ‘justice and sustainability in the health system in peace and war,’ noting that it represents a humanitarian appeal and an opportunity to once again urge the international community to support the Palestinian people in obtaining health services.
The Arab League said that this year’s Arab Health Day highlights the importance of ensuring equal access to basic health services for all segments of society, and working to sustain health systems and enhance their resilience to disasters and wars. In this regard, the League called on governments, governmental institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to unify efforts to promote health equity and ensure access to health services for every individual without discrimination, especially in light of the importance of developing health systems to be sustainable and able to confront crises.
Arab Health Day marks the anniversary of the founding of the Council of Arab Health Ministers, which was approved at its 51st regular session held in February 2019 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.
