Cairo, April 07 (QNA) – The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States strongly condemned on Tuesday the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, under police protection.
In a statement, the General Secretariat described the storming as a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the sanctity of holy sites, as well as a dangerous escalation and an unacceptable provocation to the feelings of Muslims worldwide.
It stressed that such practices reflect a systematic approach to entrench an illegal status quo in occupied Jerusalem and impose a fait accompli by force, in clear violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, which affirm the nullity of any measures aimed at altering the legal and historical status of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
The General Secretariat further affirmed that these actions contravene the provisions of international humanitarian law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, which obliges the occupying power to respect and protect religious sites and ensure freedom of worship. It added that such actions constitute a violation of Israel’s obligations under UN Security Council resolutions, particularly 252 (1968), 476 (1980), and 2334 (2016), all of which reaffirm the illegality of any measures aimed at altering the status of Jerusalem.
The General Secretariat warned of the consequences of the continuation of such policies, given their serious repercussions on regional stability and the escalation of tensions, calling on the international community to take urgent action to assume its responsibilities and put an end to these violations.
