Cairo, December 22, 2025 — His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Hassan Al-Jamali, Secretary-General of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (headquartered in Doha), said that the daily suffering of the Palestinian people, along with attempts to erase their identity and rights, places a collective responsibility on all stakeholders. He emphasized the need for unity, the activation of international legal mechanisms, and accountability for rights violations without exception.
Al-Jamali reaffirmed the Network’s commitment to standing by the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle, defending their right to self-determination, and working to end injustice. He stressed that justice, freedom, and human dignity are essential for regional and global peace and security.
The Arab Network presented its Shield of Honor to Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo, recognizing his principled positions in protecting human rights, his unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, and his backing of the Network’s mission. Al-Jamali noted that the award is a mark of respect for Dr. Aboul Gheit’s long-standing efforts to uphold justice, freedom, and human dignity.
In a related event, the Network organized the sixth Mohamed Fayek Foundation Course on Human Rights in Cairo, in cooperation with Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights. Al-Jamali highlighted that national human rights institutions play a unique role as a bridge between governments, civil society, and international mechanisms.
He explained that these institutions help align national laws with international human rights standards, issue recommendations, monitor implementation, and engage constructively with global mechanisms. The course, launched six years ago, strengthens cooperation, develops skills for new members, and builds a cohesive national human rights system across the Arab world.
Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, Chairman of Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights, said naming the course after Mohamed Fayek reflects his intellectual leadership and practical experience. He emphasized that in today’s complex regional and international context, it is crucial to prepare young professionals with awareness, scientific tools, and analytical capacity. Karem concluded that the course is not just a training program but a serious platform for capacity building, critical thinking, and linking human rights principles to practical policymaking.
