Doha, February 16 (QNA) – The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the tendering and awarding of 20 new infrastructure, buildings, drainage and public facilities projects with a combined value of approximately QR 11.5 billion, as part of its ongoing programme aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030 to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
Ashghal stated that 12 projects worth more than QR 4.5 billion were awarded during the first quarter of 2026. The package includes six major building projects, most notably the redevelopment and modernization of Hamad General Hospital, construction of a new postal building in Al Thumama, refurbishment of the Racing and Equestrian Club and the Qatar Equestrian Federation facilities, and Phase 4 of the Al Uqda Equestrian Complex development.
In the roads and residential infrastructure sector, four projects were awarded covering the development of roads and infrastructure in Izghawa and Al Thumid (Packages 1 and 2), supporting urban expansion and services for residential areas. The awarded works also include public realm enhancement projects such as beautification and construction of air-conditioned pedestrian pathways within Qatar University campus to improve accessibility and environmental quality.
Ashghal confirmed that eight additional strategic projects with an estimated value of about QR 7 billion will be tendered in the upcoming phase. These include the design and construction of the Southern Strategic Tunnel and the Western Strategic Tunnel for surface and groundwater drainage in southern Qatar. The tunnels aim to strengthen stormwater drainage systems, improve infrastructure network efficiency and mitigate flooding risks. Future tenders will also cover roads and infrastructure works serving citizens’ land plots across various northern and southern areas of the country.
HE Ashghal President Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Meer said the authority continues to implement projects in accordance with the State’s strategic plans across roads, buildings, drainage and service facilities sectors, supporting urban and economic development. He noted that all awarded projects were granted to Qatari companies, reflecting Ashghal’s commitment to strengthening the role of national firms, enhancing competitiveness and reinforcing the private sector as a key development partner.
Projects Affairs Director Eng. Khalid Al Khayareen highlighted the Hamad General Hospital redevelopment, valued at about QR 1.179 billion, as one of the most prominent projects. The comprehensive modernization will upgrade systems and facilities in line with rapid healthcare sector developments, improving service quality and operational efficiency.
Engineering Services Director Ghanem Al Mansoori emphasized that tendering and awarding procedures follow the Tenders Law and executive regulations, ensuring transparency, equal opportunity and fair competition. Contractor selection, he added, is based on clear technical and financial criteria including competence, experience and track record, while prioritizing Qatari companies in line with Ashghal’s strategy to support the national private sector.
