March 6: Azerbaijan has ordered the evacuation of its embassy in Tehran and its consulate general in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz, citing security concerns amid rising regional tensions.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced the decision during a news briefing on Friday, saying the move forms part of broader precautionary measures being implemented to ensure the safety of Azerbaijani diplomatic staff and citizens.
Bayramov emphasized that protecting Azerbaijani nationals remains the government’s top priority, noting that the evacuation is being carried out as a preventive step under the current circumstances.
The development follows reports of a drone incident launched from Iranian territory toward Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which reportedly left four Azerbaijani citizens injured.
According to Bayramov, the issue was discussed with Iran during a recent phone conversation between the foreign ministers of both countries. The Iranian side, he said, assured that the incident would be thoroughly investigated.
Azerbaijan is awaiting the outcome of the investigation, while authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
Officials stated that additional security measures remain in place as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard diplomatic personnel and citizens abroad.
