New Delhi, January 24, 2025 – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reaffirmed its commitment to follow all uniform-related rules for the upcoming Champions Trophy, amid reports of an ICC warning regarding the refusal to print “Pakistan” on the Indian team’s kits.
The Champions Trophy will be hosted in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025. In response to claims of a potential clash with the International Cricket Council (ICC), BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the Indian board would adhere to all ICC uniform regulations.
Indian media reported that the ICC had issued a “firm message” to the BCCI over its reluctance to include “Pakistan” on the team kits, as it is the host nation for the tournament. The ICC emphasized that all teams are required to display the tournament logo, which includes the host nation’s name.
India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket since 2012-13, due to ongoing political tensions. While Pakistan teams have participated in ICC events in India, no Indian team has visited Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup.
To ensure India’s participation in the Champions Trophy, the ICC has adopted a hybrid model, with matches involving India being played in Dubai. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also agreed that any future matches between the two nations will take place at neutral venues.
Last week, concerns emerged about whether India, including captain Rohit Sharma, would attend the Champions Trophy opening ceremony in Pakistan.
