Belgrade Forum Highlights AI’s Expanding Role in Biotechnology Innovation

Belgrade, October 27, 2025 — Global scientists, innovators, and investors gathered in Belgrade on Monday for the AI_4_LIFE: Biotech Future Forum, a major international event exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming biotechnology, healthcare, and sustainable innovation.
Co-organized by the Serbian government, the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the conference features more than 40 speakers from over a dozen countries across four continents. Distinguished participants include Nobel laureate Robert Huber, genomic pioneer J. Craig Venter, and leading representatives of global technology and biotech firms, alongside Serbian researchers and entrepreneurs.
Opening the forum, Prime Minister Djuro Macut said Serbia is emerging as a regional technology hub. “Biotechnology and artificial intelligence are two pillars of the future, empowering us to meet global challenges in medicine, agriculture, and energy,” he noted.
Science Minister Bela Balint described the event as “a place where science, technology, and a vision of the future meet,” emphasizing Serbia’s growing partnerships with international research institutions and the development of the BIO4 Campus, the country’s flagship biotechnology hub.
Organizers presented AI_4_LIFE as a national initiative designed to connect science, business, and government for real-world applications of AI and biotechnology. Speakers highlighted Serbia’s expanding role in the global biotech ecosystem, supported by new infrastructure, startup innovation, and AI-driven research initiatives.
Held under the theme “Modeling the Future of Health, Innovation and Society,” the forum features panels on AI-assisted drug discovery, clinical trials, personalized medicine, and AI-powered diagnostics.
A follow-up conference titled “Engineered Models of Human Disease” will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, hosted by Nature journals in collaboration with BIO4 Campus and the Ministry of Science, focusing on disease modeling and precision health technologies.
