LOS ANGELES (AP) — As firefighting efforts gain ground, the devastating wildfires in and around Los Angeles continue to affect the entertainment industry. Several projects and award shows have been delayed, with the Producers Guild postponing the announcement of nominations and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, pushing back the launch of her Netflix series until March.
In response to the disaster, celebrities and organizations have pledged millions to aid those affected. Beyoncé has made a significant contribution of $2.5 million to the newly established LA Fire Relief Fund through her charitable foundation, BeyGOOD. The fund aims to support families in the Altadena/Pasadena area, as well as churches and community centers addressing immediate needs.
Although strong winds are expected to resume this week, and thousands of homes have been destroyed, firefighting teams have managed to protect several populated areas. Tragically, 24 people have died, with many more reported missing.
Beyoncé’s donation comes after her mother, Tina Knowles, shared on social media that her Malibu bungalow was destroyed in the fires. The Screen Actors Guild has also committed $1 million to support members affected by the fires, with attention on both high-profile celebrities and the many less-known industry workers who have been displaced.
