The UK government announced Friday that all employees will be required to obtain a digital identity document, in Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s latest effort to curb illegal migration and counter the rise of the populist Reform UK party.
Speaking at the Global Progress Action Summit alongside leaders of Canada, Australia, and Iceland, Starmer admitted that his centre-left Labour government, like others, had long been “squeamish” about openly addressing public concerns over immigration.
