Doha, February 5, 2025 – Qatar’s Cabinet, chaired by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, convened for its regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday morning. Following the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi provided a summary of the Cabinet’s discussions.
The Cabinet began by welcoming the results of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s state visit to Oman on January 28-29, highlighting the productive talks with HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The discussions, which resulted in several memoranda of understanding and a joint statement, underscored the strong and evolving relations between the two nations. The Cabinet emphasized that the visit reinforced cooperation to support regional security and stability.
Additionally, the Cabinet praised HH the Amir’s official visit to Syria on January 30, noting that it expressed Qatar’s unwavering support for the Syrian people. The meeting between HH the Amir and Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa marked the beginning of strategic cooperation aimed at benefiting both nations and promoting peace in the region.
On the domestic front, the Cabinet approved several significant agreements. These included the supplementary agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) regarding the establishment of a UNDP office in Qatar and the formation of a joint ministerial committee with Costa Rica for trade cooperation. The Cabinet also endorsed Qatar’s participation in the International Operational Risk Working Group (IORWG) and a memorandum of understanding on food security cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s General Food Security Authority.
The Cabinet also reviewed agreements related to humanitarian assistance, including contributions to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and UNICEF for 2025-2026. Furthermore, academic cooperation agreements were approved between Doha University of Science and Technology and Canadian universities – the University of Saskatchewan and the University of British Columbia.
Lastly, the Cabinet discussed several reports, including a review of the Tenders and Auctions Regulations Law, the development of government procurement systems, Qatar’s environmental sustainability strategy, and incentives for electric and hybrid cars. The Cabinet also examined the outcomes of COP 29 and the Qatar-Iran Joint Committee’s 10th session.
