MIRPUR ( AJK): July 29:Azad Jammu Kashmir State Inland Revenue Department Tuesday hosted a capacity building training workshop of the Department’s staffers to perform in the light of the amendments recently introduced in the tax laws through the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Finance Act 2025.
The IRD South Region AJK Commissioner Syed Ansar Ali managed the day long event in the light of the specific instructions of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Central Board of Revenue Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Raqeeb, Our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports from Mirpur from the venue of the workshop, attended by Senior officers besides the field staff of the State Inland Revenue Department.
An IRD spokesman while briefing this Correspondent the salient features of the day long workshop, said that after the promulgation of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Finance Act 2025 by the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, numerous amendments have been introduced in various tax laws, including the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, the Sales Tax Act, 1990, the Federal Excise Act, 2005, etc., since June 24, 2023, the implementation of which in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir region was legally and constitutionally imperative because these amendments not only lead to an increase in the government’s revenue but also have legal, practical and developmental significance, he added.
According to the spokesperson of the Inland Revenue Department, the ceremony remained very successful in legal and academic terms and the Inland Revenue Department resolve on this occasion to host such training workshops in the future to boost the professional skills and capabilities of the staffers of the department with prime focus to bring maximum of the due filers in the tax net.
The spokesman continued that workshop on these amendments, organized under the patronage of Syed Ansar Ali, Commissioner Inland Revenue, South Zone, Inland Revenue Department, was attended among others by Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) Basil Siddique and Additional Commissioner Inland Revenue Dr. Shazia Habib, besides Circle Officers, Inspectors and Staff Members of the three districts of Mirpur Division also participated.
Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue Mahmood Alam, Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue Syed Ali Asghar, Audit Officer Inland Revenue Sabir Hussain Baloch, Deputy Director Faizullah Sial, Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue Muhammad Babar Khan, Assistant Director Sajid Amin Khan and Inspector Inland Revenue Nasir Mahmood gave detailed lectures and briefings on multimedia regarding the amendments brought in the tax laws. During the event various points were raised and questions were asked by various participants, which were discussed in the light of legal provisions and answered.
In the closing hours of the event, Commissioner Appeals Basil Siddique, Additional Commissioner Inland Revenue Dr. Shazia Habib and Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone) Syed Ansar Ali congratulated the participants of the workshop for organizing a successful event.
Commissioner Syed Ansar Ali said that holding such a workshop was very important because proper implementation of tax laws improves the tax collection system and creates transparency in it. Every official of the Inland Revenue Department plays a key role, in view of which every circle officer, Inland Revenue Inspector and office staff should have full access to the tax laws so that the supremacy of law was maintained and there was no legal loophole in its implementation, he underlined.
Certificates were also distributed among the participants by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Central Board of Revenue.
