Canada’s next Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has strongly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs, calling them “an attack on Canadian workers, families, and businesses.”
In a social media post, Carney vowed that his government would implement a strategic response, ensuring it has “maximum impact in the U.S. and minimal impact in Canada.” He emphasized that Canada would maintain its tariffs until the U.S. administration makes “credible, reliable commitments to free and fair trade.”
Carney also highlighted the importance of defending Canada’s economic sovereignty and ensuring that businesses and workers are not unfairly targeted by protectionist policies. He reassured industries most affected by the tariffs that his administration would provide support to mitigate potential economic damage. The trade dispute underscores long-standing tensions between Canada and the U.S., with Carney pledging to stand firm against any policies that threaten Canadian jobs and economic stability.
