China, Australia Agree to Expand Trade, Deepen Cooperation

Beijing, April 7 – Li Qiang has called for expanding trade and strengthening economic ties with Australia to achieve mutual benefit and long-term cooperation.
During a phone conversation with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Li said China remains committed to opening its vast market and increasing imports of high-quality Australian products. He emphasized the importance of upgrading bilateral trade and supporting enterprises from both countries to enhance cooperation based on market principles.
Li noted that amid global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and rising protectionism, China and Australia should maintain stable relations, strengthen communication, and build on positive momentum in their partnership. He stressed the need to deepen mutual trust, promote high-level exchanges, and safeguard multilateralism and free trade.
Highlighting future opportunities, Li pointed to strong potential in areas such as clean energy, electric vehicles, and carbon reduction, urging both sides to accelerate discussions on upgrading their free trade agreement.
Albanese reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to a stable and constructive relationship with China, expressing willingness to expand cooperation in trade, investment, and energy sectors. He also underscored the importance of dialogue and coordination to address global challenges and promote regional stability.
