ACCRA, July 9, 2025 – China and Ghana marked the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with a significant milestone: bilateral trade between the two nations reached $11.8 billion in 2024, reflecting a 7.1% increase over the previous year.
At a ceremony launching the anniversary celebrations, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, emphasized the enduring strength of the two countries’ economic partnership. “China remains Ghana’s largest trading partner and a key source of foreign investment,” Tong noted.
He highlighted that hundreds of Chinese enterprises now operate in Ghana across various sectors, including infrastructure, mining, energy, aviation, and manufacturing. These ventures have not only supported Ghana’s industrialization efforts but also created numerous employment opportunities for local communities.
Beyond trade, Tong acknowledged the strong political trust and growing cultural connections between the two nations. He praised the ongoing people-to-people exchanges and commended the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) for its role in promoting mutual understanding.
GHACHIFA Chairman Anani Demuyakor echoed these sentiments, pointing to the increasing interest in Mandarin language education in Ghanaian schools. “Language learning is helping bridge the communication gap and strengthening interpersonal ties,” he said.
Demuyakor also pledged to intensify efforts to foster harmony and cultural appreciation between Ghanaians and Chinese residents in the country.
Over six decades of cooperation have seen China and Ghana transform their relationship into one grounded in economic collaboration, diplomatic trust, and cultural respect a bond that both sides aim to deepen in the years ahead.
