China, South Korea Pledge Deeper Strategic Partnership During Talks

Beijing, January 5 — Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing on Monday with President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Lee Jae Myung, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
President Xi noted that the two leaders have met on several occasions and exchanged visits, underscoring the importance both sides attach to China–ROK relations. He said that as close neighbors and partners, the two countries should maintain regular dialogue, enhance exchanges, and promote mutual trust.
Xi stressed that China places its relationship with the ROK high on its regional diplomatic agenda and remains committed to a stable and consistent policy approach. He called for advancing the bilateral strategic partnership based on mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, and respect for each other’s development paths, while properly managing differences through dialogue and consultation.
Highlighting close economic ties, Xi said industrial and supply chains between the two countries are deeply interconnected, creating strong foundations for mutually beneficial cooperation. He encouraged deeper alignment of development strategies and expanded collaboration in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, green industries, and the silver economy.
Xi also emphasized the shared responsibility of China and the ROK in safeguarding regional peace and supporting global development. He called on both sides to oppose protectionism, uphold multilateralism, and contribute to an inclusive and balanced global economic order.
President Lee described China and the ROK as close neighbors with long-standing ties and expressed appreciation for China’s role in preserving historical sites related to the Korean independence movement. He reaffirmed Seoul’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation, respecting China’s core interests, and adhering to the one-China principle.
Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of 15 cooperation agreements covering innovation, environmental protection, transportation, and economic cooperation.
