Beijing, August 27 – China’s top political advisor Wang Huning met with Andrea Caroni, President of the Swiss Council of States, in Beijing on Wednesday to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Wang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), highlighted that China and Switzerland have maintained a relationship based on equality, mutual respect, and shared benefits for decades. He called on both nations to implement the consensus reached by their leaders, consolidate political trust, and seize new opportunities for cooperation.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges and enhancing multilateral coordination to ensure that the China-Switzerland Innovative Strategic Partnership continues to deliver greater benefits to their citizens. Wang reaffirmed the CPPCC’s readiness to contribute actively to advancing bilateral ties.
Caroni expressed his pleasure at visiting China during this milestone year, praising the country’s innovation capacity and significant development achievements. He reaffirmed Switzerland’s adherence to the one-China policy and voiced hope for deeper practical cooperation, particularly by accelerating negotiations on upgrading the China-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement.
Caroni also emphasized Switzerland’s commitment to safeguarding multilateralism and promoting world peace and stability. He said the Council of States is keen to enhance mutual understanding and work toward sustained progress in China-Switzerland relations.
