Beijing, April 7 – China on Tuesday urged warring parties in the Middle East to demonstrate sincerity toward ceasefire proposals, while warning the United Nations Security Council not to escalate tensions amid an expected vote on the place”,”Strait of Hormuz”,”Middle East waterway”].
Mao Ning emphasized that the conflict’s “root cause” stems from US and Israel military actions against Iran in violation of international law. She stressed that “the use of force does not bring peace; political settlement is the correct path.”
Mao called for an immediate halt to military operations and a return to dialogue, noting China’s support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts. She highlighted that Iran recently responded to US proposals with a 10-point plan, exchanged via Pakistan, and welcomed efforts contributing to peace.
Ahead of the UN Security Council vote on protecting commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Mao urged restraint, saying the Council “should promote ceasefire and not add fire to the flames.” She reaffirmed China’s willingness, as a permanent P5 member, to play a constructive role in fostering peace and stability, recalling extensive diplomatic contacts by Wang Yi with regional and global counterparts to seek an end to hostilities.
