BEIJING — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated Thursday that Beijing opposes the use of force in international relations amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
In talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, Wang emphasized that China “advocates adherence to the UN Charter and international law, opposes the use or threat of force, and rejects attempts to impose one’s will on others.” He warned against a return to a “law of the jungle” approach in international affairs.
Wang expressed confidence that the Iranian government and people would remain united, overcome challenges, maintain national stability, and protect their legitimate rights. He urged all parties to cherish peace, exercise restraint, and resolve differences through dialogue, adding that China is willing to play a constructive role in promoting regional stability.
Araghchi briefed Wang on recent anti-government protests in Iran, saying stability has been restored following unrest “instigated by external forces.” He affirmed Iran’s readiness to counter foreign interference while keeping dialogue open, and welcomed China’s greater involvement in supporting regional peace.
The demonstrations, which began December 28 over inflation and economic hardships, have spread nationwide, involving workers, students, and small business owners. Human Rights Activists News Agency estimates at least 2,615 people, including protesters and security personnel, have died, though Iranian authorities have not released official figures.
China’s statements reinforce its commitment to diplomacy, urging restraint, dialogue, and peaceful resolution while opposing foreign interference or escalation.
