China willing to work with EU to strengthen global climate governance

Beijing, July 08 (QNA) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry affirmed Beijing’s readiness to work with the European Union (EU) on efforts to strengthen global climate governance.
This came at a press conference held by spokesperson for the Ministry Mao Ning, in response to European proposals to enhance bilateral cooperation on energy transition and low-carbon green development, which were put forward during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Europe.
The spokesperson noted China’s commitment to adjusting its energy structure, promoting green development, and close cooperation with international partners in global climate governance.
China and the EU actively support the low-carbon transformation in the energy sector and promote green development, she said, noting that the two sides firmly adhere to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as the cornerstone of international climate governance, and that the common interests and potential for cooperation between them in addressing climate change are enormous.
China advocates for and contributes significantly to green development, the spokesperson added. She stressed that China is ready to work with the EU to support multilateralism and the goals of the Paris Agreement, enhance cooperation in climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, and green transformation, and jointly promote global climate governance.
