BEIJING, March 16 – Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday called for tangible progress in government work in 2026 and stressed the need to contribute actively to advancing Chinese modernization.
Chairing the 11th plenary meeting of the State Council of China, Li urged government departments to maintain strategic focus, act proactively, and take decisive, effective measures to fully implement the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China Central Committee to higher standards.
Li emphasized the importance of seizing development opportunities, strengthening economic foundations, enhancing resilience, and ensuring solid results and breakthroughs. Key priorities include building a unified national market, expanding and upgrading the service sector, advancing new-generation smart manufacturing, developing major infrastructure networks, improving public well-being, and addressing external shocks and challenges.
The premier also highlighted the need to integrate education on correct governance understanding with the execution of government duties, ensuring officials’ performance aligns with strategic goals and delivers measurable outcomes.
Li called on all departments to take persistent, coordinated actions to achieve the objectives outlined for 2026 and the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), underscoring the importance of decisive implementation and accountability to advance China’s development trajectory.
