WINDHOEK, Feb. 1 — Namibia’s capital hosted a vibrant Chinese Spring Festival celebration on Saturday evening, underscoring the deepening friendship and cooperation between China and Namibia. The event brought together Namibian and Chinese performers in a colorful display of music, poetry, traditional dragon and lion dances, and equestrian performances, reflecting the rich cultural heritage shared by the two nations.
Namibian politician Utoni Nujoma said the celebration marked not only the upcoming Chinese New Year but also the enduring bonds between the two countries. He noted that beyond diplomatic relations and political trust, bilateral projects have remained people-centered, delivering tangible benefits to communities across Namibia.
Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Zhao Weiping highlighted the significance of the upcoming Year of the Horse, beginning on Feb. 17, 2026, symbolizing success and prosperity. He described the festival as a celebration of shared progress and strong bilateral ties.
The occasion also featured a charitable gesture, as six Chinese-funded enterprises donated support to SOS Children’s Village in Namibia. Sylvia Shimaneni of the charity welcomed the contribution, calling it a meaningful act of unity and partnership that will benefit vulnerable children.
Chinese business representative Cui Yunke said the donation reflects a commitment to giving back and strengthening people-to-people connections.
