MIRPUR ( AJK): Dec. 9: Lambasting crushers and dumpers mafia for their vested interest activities of over digging and excavating, detrimental to the country’s second biggest reservoir Mangla Dam. President Khari Sharif Welfare Society Chaudhry Azhar Mahmood said here on Tuesday that the crusher and dumper mafia has destroyed the roads of Khari Sharif while causing, what he allegex, great damage to the Mangla Dam.
” It is feared that the dam itself might be affected due to the amount of excavation that was being done in the coming period. The concerned departments have banned crushing within twenty kilometers, while five feet of excavation was allowed, while all the crushing plants were located within five to six kilometers and excavation has been done up to one hundred feet”,
Our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports from Mirpur that Azhar expressed these views while addressing news conference, along with other notables of the area at Kashmir Press Club here on Tuesday.
He continued that local politicians of Khari Sharif stand mafia theirselves for he alleged, who have been supporting this mafia on few points.
He said that local population civil society were constrained to come out with the Youth and Action Committee and will take this matter to its logical conclusion. The district administration is given two weeks’ period to immediately move to address the issue. We are also bringing the above ugly situation in the notices of the AJK Prime Minister, Chief Secretary and IG for immediate necessary action in yhe loght of yheor de.ands.
On this occasion, the members of the Joint Public Action Committee Raja Danish Advocate, Professor Naghman Arif, a large number of youth, journalists and elders of Khari Sharif were present on this occasion.
Elaborating the state of affairs Chaudhry Azhar Mahmood said that the crusher and dumper mafia has caused havoc in this Khari Sharif. “Allah forbid, there is a fear of dam collapse. The departments have issued orders to dig up to five feet and install a crush plant twenty kilometers outside the dam limits, but this mafia has caused havoc. Five to six hundred dumpers pass by daily, which have destroyed the roads. Along with this, the Laraib bridge is also about to be destroyed. We have knocked on every door, including the Mangla WAPDA district administration, but not even five percent has been implemented. WAPDA has also expressed fear of serious damage to the dam, but this influential mafia is not giving up. We are giving a two-week respite, after which we will give a plan of action for the future. We will not leave this mafia alone. We will knock on the door of the Supreme Court. Member of the Joint Public Action Committee, Professor Naghman Arif, said on this occasion that the condition of the schools and roads of Khari Sharif is pathetic, those who remain silent about it are also guilty. We will raise the voice of these people at every forum. Raja Danish, Chaudhry Azhar, Naghman Arif said that we are giving a two-week deadline in which we will hold a grand jirga in Khari Sharif and give a plan of action. Pressure and pressure are being put on us to stop this matter, but now we will not stop. This is the matter of our Khari Sharif. We will ensure its safety and that of our dam. If any damage occurs in it, the administration and politicians of Khari will be responsible, they concluded.
